Georgia is divided in eastern and western halves by the Likhi Range that is a natural bridge between The Greater Caucasus Mountain Range in north and Lesser Caucasus Mountains in South. Some of the picks of The Greater Caucasus Mountain Range exceed 5000m (16,404 ft) above the sea level. Approximately 300 glaciers of the Caucasus are located within Georgia.
The western part of the country is washed by the Black Sea which forms a 330km (206 mile) long coastline. Therefore the western Georgia has a humid and subtropical climate. The eastern part of the country is less influenced by the warm winds blowing from the sea and has drier and continental climate.
Georgia shares the borders with Russian Federation in the north, Turkey in the southeast, Armenia in the south and Azerbaijan in the east.
There are two autonomous republics within the territory of Georgia: Adjara with a capital Batumi and Abkhazia with its capital Sukhumi.
South Ossetia or Tskhinvali Region is a dispute region within the former Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic.
